World War I And The Great War - 1249 Words
Whenever you come across World War I, donââ¬â¢t you ever deeply think about how it all started? Who would have known that just 2 pulls of a trigger could have triggered a demoralizing World War? World War I, also known as ââ¬Å"The Great War,â⬠was a war that primarily took place in Europe. It officially started on the 28th of July in 1914 and it unexpectedly lasted until the 11th of November in 1918 (about 4 years). The most predominant countries that fought in this war include Great Britain, France, Russia, and Germany. This war left many people in shock as it surprisingly ended up killing more than over 9 million combatants and just over 7 million civilians (World War I). WWI is known to being one of the most fatal wars in the history of theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He was given the rank of lieutenant at the age of 14, captain at 22, colonel at 27, and major general at 31. When Crown prince Rudolf (Franz Ferdinandââ¬â¢s cousin) committed suicide in his hunting l odge in Mayerling, Karl Ludwig (Franz Ferdinandââ¬â¢s father) was next in line for the place of the Austro-Hungarian throne, but he later died of typhoid fever in 1896. In 1896, Franz Ferdinand was the man entitled to inherit the Austro-Hungarian throne. Being an Arch-Duke meant his position was just lower than a kingsââ¬â¢. (Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria) So how did Austro-Hungarian Arch-Duke die? Back in the day, in the southern part of Austro-Hungary, was a region called ââ¬Å"Bosniaâ⬠. What differentiated Bosnia from the other regions of Austro Hungary was the fact that the majority of the Bosnians (people of Bosnia) wanted Bosnia to be its own state or country, as they didnââ¬â¢t want to be under the same system of laws as Austro-Hungary. When Franz Ferdinand announced his trip to Sarajevo (the biggest and capital city of Bosnia), Bosnian nationalists (the people that truly believed that Bosnia should be its own country) decided to take advantage of this opportunity and strike against the Austrian empire.
