Im for legalizing marijuana. Why pick on those drugs? Valium is legal. You just go to a doctor and get it and overdose on it - whats the difference? Prozac, all that stuff, so why not marijuana? Who cares? Its something that grows out of the ground - why not? Go smoke a head of cabbage. I dont care what you smoke (Stern). This particular quote is the reality of how many Americans actually feel about the supposed war on drugs. Mary jane, airplane, weed, reefer and dank are all commonly used terms used to describe marijuana. Marijuana as described by several resources is a mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds, and the flowering tops of the pistillate cannabis sativa plant that yields THC and is prepared in a manner to create†¦show more content†¦In the early days of cannabis use, it was used as a form of food, as well as by the inhabitants of certain areas strictly for medicinal purposes, and for others the plant was used strictly as a spiritual herb, used to enhan ce the spiritual well-being of members of the particular clusters of ancient people. Through trade and migration many traded the plant as well as customs to go along with the plant. Groups of people such as the Chinese and the Scythians, used the cannabis fibers for food and began to use it for religious ceremonies as offerings; they also began to bury the cannabis seeds with members of royalty and noblemen. As people became more aware of the use for the cannabis plant they also began to use it as a form of narcotics by eating it. According to historians it is believed that the use of marijuana as a drug began around 430 B.C., but was ostracized into certain areas. As the years continued to pass all of the uses for the cannabis plant seemed to have been positive, but it wasnt until around 900 – 1000 A.D., that many scholars began to question the pros and cons of the use of the plant in order to induce euphoria. Throughout history the cannabis plant was omnipresent even in government affairs. It was reported that such great government officials and American leaders such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln have been linked to the drug, as a form of recreation used to unwind.
